Enchanted Makeovers Launches Myriam House Transformation;
Issues Call for Volunteers

TAYLOR, MI — Nineteen volunteers equipped with paint brushes, rollers and paint pans were on hand for the launch of Enchanted Makeovers’ 2009 Vision Project transformation at Vista Maria’s Myriam House on Saturday, Oct. 10. Volunteers primed wooden bed frames in the 11 bedrooms and painted the hallway in preparation for the mural artists, who will transform the space into a virtual fairy garden.

“I’m thrilled to begin this phase of the project,” said Terry Grahl, founder and president of Enchanted Makeovers, noting that the organization has been working toward the project all year by gathering items on the 2009 Vision Dream List. The repairs, painting and decorating for each Enchanted Makeovers shelter transformation commence only when every item from the dream list has been donated. “It’s been a difficult year for a lot of people because of the economy, but many individuals were still incredibly generous. I appreciate everyone who gave toward this project—whether it was a gift of time, talents or monetary donations,” Grahl said.

In the 2009 Vision Project, all 11 bedrooms for 20 girls living at Vista Maria’s Myriam House will be made over into their very own “sacred havens.” The bedroom walls and hallways will be cheerfully painted. And all of the girls' rooms will have new lighting, decorative molding, murals, new bedspreads, sheet sets, mattress pads, pillows, mattresses, bunk beds, area rugs, blinds, vintage dressers and wooden inspirational signs. Numerous handcrafted items (curtains, decorative pillows, stuffed kittens, dolls, purses, jewelry, etc) have also been made for the girls and their rooms. The girls will also receive journals, robes, slippers, pj’s, celebrity swag bags, beauty products, hair care items, books and handmade hope chests.

“I’m grateful to all the volunteers who spent their day helping us begin the makeover,” Grahl said. “We were able to accomplish a lot in just one day.” However, she added, more work is needed before the mural artists and professional painters can begin their part of the project.

On Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Enchanted Makeovers will hold another work day at Vista Maria’s Myriam House. At least 35 volunteers will be needed to paint the bed frames, prep the bedroom walls for painting, wallpaper medicine cabinet doors and apply a second coat of paint in the hallway. Several volunteers are also needed to install new vanity lights in each bedroom.

Volunteers are asked to bring their own rollers, paint pans, brushes and tools. Five step ladders are also needed. Lunch and beverages will be provided by Enchanted Makeovers.
To volunteer, contact Terry Grahl at 734-776-0848 or Enchantedmakeovers@comcast.net. All volunteers must submit their names to Grahl by 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16.
