Enchanted Makeovers Moves Forward With Kansas City Outreach

The Enchanted Makeovers outreach to Newhouse in Kansas City is still on track despite the dissolution of The Society of Decorating Professionals.

TAYLOR, MI — Following the recent dissolution of The Society of Decorating Professionals (SDP), Terry Grahl, founder and president of Enchanted Makeovers, quickly contacted volunteers and rounded up resources to ensure that the event benefiting Newhouse on March 9 in Kansas City would be able to move forward despite the conference cancellation. “The women at Newhouse are counting on us,” Grahl said. “The conference that was originally planned for Kansas City gave us an opportunity to get the ball rolling and create awareness about the shelter. Thanks to all the volunteers and donors who have rallied around this cause, we have the momentum to move forward and make the outreach event happen even without the conference.”

During the event, now called Recipes of Hope, volunteers will spend time cooking at Kansas City-based Function Junction (www.functionjunction.com) with the 30 women who live at Newhouse and sitting down to the meal at the nearby Gifted Hands gift shop (www.giftedhandskc.com) while sharing laughter, tears and fellowship. Grahl also aims to create a mini-makeover for the shelter through donations of handmade decorative and inspirational items, along with personal gifts for the women and children who live at the shelter.

In addition to Function Junction and Gifted Hands, local and national businesses have already stepped forward in support of the event. Local donors include Q Hotel + Spa (www.theqhotel.com), Westport Floral Designs (www.westportfloral.com) and Christina Lundeen Photography (www.christinalundeen.com). Rachel Gaffney of Dallas-based Rachel Gaffney’s Authentic Irish Goods (www.rachelgaffneys.com) and Karen Watts of Kansas City are coordinating the food preparation and dining experience. Additional donors and decorators are still needed to make the event a success.

To find out how you can get involved or to make a monetary donation, contact Terry Grahl at 734-776-0848 or Enchantedmakeovers@comcast.net, or visit www.enchantedmakeovers.org.
