Downriver's 20 Under 40

This year offers yet another standout group

Welcome to The News-Herald Newspapers' third annual 20 Under 40, honoring Downriver's best from a wide variety of professions. Nomination categories are business, religion, education, the arts, community service, health care, emergency services, law and government.

 

All honorees live and/or work Downriver, and were less than 40 years old as of Oct. 17.

A panel of eight News-Herald employees from a variety of departments chose the 20 from among 34 nominees.

The 20 are:

Ken Boyea, Riverview firefighter, emergency medical technician and union president; Gibraltar councilman; and yard foreman, Barton Malow Co. Design/Construction Services.

Shawn Bumgardner, franchise owner, Ameriprise Financial, Southgate.

Kyle Caruso, youth sports coordinator, Downriver Family YMCA, Southgate.

John Elliott, president, Load One Transportation and Logistics, Taylor.

Donna Follbaum, president and chief executive officer, Metro Shores Credit Union, Trenton.

Jessica Gilleran, co-owner, instructor and artistic director, Dance Avenue, Southgate.

Terry Grahl, owner, Terry's Enchanted Cottage, Taylor.

Mark Greathead, director of personnel and employee services, Allen Park Public Schools.

Joni Harhold, teacher, Shumate Middle School, Gibraltar.

Sgt. Scott Hayes, Southgate Police Department.

Adam Kalmbach, procurement agent, BASF Corp., Wyandotte; Wyandotte Catholic Consolidated Schools board member.

Mark Kibby, city administrator and Downtown Development Authority director, Gibraltar.

Noel Lipinski, funeral director/embalmer, Czopek Funeral Directors, Wyandotte, and Kernan Funeral Services, Lincoln Park.

Aaron Maike, president, Baker College, Allen Park; past president, Allen Park Chamber of Commerce.

Carol Makuch, assistant principal, Wilson Middle School, Wyandotte.

Dr. Gregory Raspbury, veterinarian, Village Animal Healthcare, Trenton.
