Enchanted Makeovers with Terry Grahl
By: Michelle Meals

If you talk to Terry Grahl, you will know right away that she is more than a talker, she is a “do-er.” Outside of being a full-time mom and housekeeper, her passion is interior decorating. Terry is the founder of Enchanted Makeovers, a non-profit organization that transforms homeless shelters into beautiful spaces for women and children.
In 2008, Terry stepped back from her full-time job as an interior decorator and began the work of transforming shelters into places of peace. “Things started falling into place,” she recalls. “I felt like my talents were being wasted and I had so much more to give in an emotional way.”
Terry’s vision is about restoring hope to the women and children that reside in shelters across the country. With her interior design background, Terry takes the time to invest in these shelters, making the women feel precious by surrounding them with homemade items and a beautiful room to wake up in. “It is not quick,” she says. “It takes time to make over these shelters.”

As Terry steps out in faith, she is able to see the lives of women and children “awaken from within. I am seeing it with women in the shelters, volunteers, and donors across the country. It’s huge to me that they see that this is so much bigger than a pretty color on the wall.”
Most recently, Terry has been blessed to team up with Martha Stewart’s Dreamers-Into-Doers Project. Winner of Martha Stewart's Dreamer's into Doers People's Choice Award, Terry is gathering a group of women entrepreneurs for an Enchanted Makeover in New York City. Working with a local domestic violence shelter, Martha has invited
Terry, dreamers into doers and the women from the shelter into her office for a day of inspirational stories, lunch and handmade gifts for all the women. In the midst of all the excitement and growth, Terry reminds herself, "It is not the destination. It is the journey. That is what Enchanted Makeovers is about."
We’re inspired by Terry’s passion for bringing hope for the daily grind to these women and to the world around them. To learn more about Enchanted Makeovers, visit www.enchantedmakeovers.org.
